This now abandoned home burned as a result of arson after a domestic dispute in May of 2015. Since the fire the house has sat vacant ever since with visible signs that at some point after someone returned and began construction to restore the fire damaged section. According to records the home was built in 1764 and it appears at one point several additions were added including closing in the existing back porch and expanding it as well as an addition for a kitchen, dining room, and extra bedroom. It sets on 193 acres of property and last sold for 1,5 million dollars.
I discovered this mansion on the Chesapeake Bay while on a camping trip. I could see the top of the house over top the treeline as we drove by and knew I had to stop. I finally had the opportunity early Sunday morning while my friends were still asleep. As I approached the property I almost drove past. The driveway still looked used and crops were growing in the front. I overcame my thoughts and approached the house. It is extremely overgrown but looks as if its still being maintained to a certain extent. The door was unlocked and you could immediately tell there had been a fire. All of the remnants of a kitchen had been removed and the windows and doors had been replaced since the fire. Many of the previous tenants personal belongings remained stacked near the front door. In a news article it stated the family was helped by American Red Cross. The only thing I can think happened is that they either divorced and the house is in limbo or they bought a new home.
