This was a favorite explore of mine. We had changed locations for our beach vacation for the first time this year. I was told Carolina Beach was a more laid back residential family style beach. This was a bit of a downer for me because I was figuring that that meant there would be nothing to explore. I was wrong as hell. I found 5 or 6 different abandoned locations, unfortunately I was only able to film 3 because of time and distance although there was a rather large abandoned mall within 40 minutes to our condo. I did research on this theatre and found it closed in 2010 after they lost business and the building was becoming more and more outdated. It was put up for lease and later for sale but nobody was interested in the building and by the time they were trying to sell it there was already extensive water damage and broken windows. I biked over to the theatre at the beginning of the week. It sets at the back entrance of another abandoned mall and everything around it aside from some beach homes down the street is pretty deserted and creepy. I tried several doors except the front figuring those would be the ones that would be locked because they were boarded up. To my surprise a single door hidden behind a loose board was fully unlocked and opened just enough to squeeze in. With the water damage and vandalism I assumed there would be no power. Wrong again. All the lights worked and all the theatre equipment was fully functional. It just made the whole place that much creepier. I filmed alone and against my own gut telling me no I came back at night and explored alone without my camera. Only one theatre light was on when I came back and I avoided messing with breakers so I wouldn't be seen by any passing cars or people. The area where it sets seems like a bad area but the strangest thing is that its really not. It's in a really nice beach area. Unfortunately I tried to return two days later to find the door had been locked with a key.
