If anyone has watched our channel in the early days they probably saw the video we put up on the Williamsport Tannery, The tannery closed in 2005 due to jobs being out-sourced to China. Several people have been injured or killed at the site and hundreds if not thousands of workers were left without jobs. It also left a hole in the town it was the centerpiece of. The historic plant started its life as Byron Leathers and ended it as GST AutoLeather.
When we last saw the plant it was in the middle of a demolition being called a "salvage restoration" and around 20% of the factory had been demolished. The plan was to recreate it as a commercial center using some of the original historic structure such as the offices and get rid of the many additions and modern factory structures. As work progressed into 2017 it was halted when the town changed zoning of the land to protect unwanted business. As of today opposing residents in nearby shanty houses are attempting to block any plan other than what they feel fits. What is currently left standing is the original office buildings and some newer storage and main factory facilities as well as the smoke stack. It is around as of now 80% demolished with no end in sight any time soon.
I had visited this a few days before in the snow and got some really great footage. I decided a few days later to return at night with Brandon and our friend Will. We parked across the street and were inside for around 2 1/3 hours filming and going in buildings I hadn't before while filming another video. Upon trying to enter what was left of a main newer section a neighbor called the police on us. We managed to get back through the gate and a van pulled up to my car and began taking pictures. As we sped off we were followed. I managed to lose them and have not been back since.
