From what I can tell, this motel opened in the 50s or 60s. The rumor was that it was built by stacking shipping containers on top of each other and turning them into motel rooms. I never really believed it because I never saw any pictures of construction. However, this was confirmed now that one side of the motel has been gutted to remodel and you can clearly see the side of a shipping container that was walled over but partly uncovered in the new construction. The other side of the motel has been closed since 2012. The side that remained open was known for drugs and being a very shanty motel in general, operating as a Knights Inn until this year when it was sold. Taco Bell purchased the un-operational side to demolish and build a training center. Along with it came 3 homes, also slated to be torn to rubble.
We asked nicely to film and given a yes by a very busy acting and annoyed Russian man. We filmed and worked for 4 hours or more, more than needed, but still it worked out. We ended up getting in a few of the rooms. Both were fairly still in tact and really clean. For a motel getting ready to be torn down, it seemed like it was pointless and such a waste. There was nothing really wrong with it other than some rusted out staircases and doors needing replaced. We attempted to get into the other side but didn't have much luck as the owners showed up (stereotypical Indian couple who have no interest in the past of the motel or the entire place in general, they pretty much just bought the place to make money). This motel was an asset to them and nowhere close to anything they had a care for. They seemed really nice but when we walked away they went and told the workers to run us out. The same Russian guy came walking over yelling about me taking pictures of the motel and going on and on, then proceeded to follow us all the way out and up the sidewalk.
